High School Freshman Baseball

Postby skill133 » Tue Apr 22, 2014 5:28 pm

We are just several games into the season, but so far from what I've seen there is a pretty sad state of baseball skills going on. My son's team is good, but I didn't think that they would be blowing teams out. Hopefully it's just early and we've just played a couple of weaker schools.

What is everyone else seeing out there?

Your varsity creamed ours but our freshman didn't get the scheduled to play, which was a bummer.

Our Frosh are 13-3 but I have to agree many of the teams we've faced surely would struggle in a AA level tournament. Pitching depth is horrific across the board, player smarts are embarrassing, and some kids just aren't close to ready for 60/90 or -3 bats. I catch myself wondering if their parents have been paying for their kids to be "developed"??

The core of skilled kids we have all have at least AA experience but many, as I've met parents and discussed backgrounds of their sons, have been rec or not at all. Guessing you guys have quite a few AAA or better and would do the same to us as you did to our varsity.

We might fare OK in a regular weekend tourney because we do have good pitching depth but would end up losing in brackets due to lack of experience at the high levels.

It not going to be surprising to see why the numbers dwindle from 9th thru 12th grade.

What school is your son at CoachBob? Our Frosh are 11-2-1. Were undefeated when we finally ran into some good competition, which was nice to see! My son got called up to JV starting this week so no more Frosh games. I was hoping the JV would be better, but go figure, a complete washout this week. Hopefully he will get some JV games in before season ends next week!

Hey if you know any 14U teams looking for a player on Memorial Weekend let me know. Warriors had to back out due to lack of players available. Would like to get my son playing on a team that weekend.

Plymouth...and I saw your post on MLive but I think most of the HS kids on the Jay's Elite are back for Memorial Day wknd, except mine, so I doubt we'll need a fill in. Do you know Tim? If not PM me and I'll give you his email and you can verify but I'll bet he's seen your post too and they did take a straw poll a couple weeks ago.

We've had an originally scheduled game Tuesday after Memorial Day and now a rain makeup that Thursday so his debut will hopefully be at the SNIT in Cincy. If they throw more makeups the following week we'll have to make a decision.
